Library Webpage - Chinese Law & Legal Culture

This guide includes links to many of the best websites for finding information about the laws, legal system, and business, political & legal culture of the People's Republic of China. All Hastings students have access to the iSinolaw subscription database, which is one of the best websites available for finding Chinese laws.

In the first class we also explained how to find books on Chinese legal issues in the Hastings Library (search catalog / course reserve), plus how to locate useful articles for your research (seminar research guide). The class handout was a list of Selected China Law Books at the Hastings Law Library (pdf).

If you have any questions this semester, stop by the Reference Desk and ask a Librarian, or if you have a seemingly complicated question, e-mail , Int'l & Foreign Law Librarian and make an appointment to discuss your research. Good luck!

It is by far the world's largest English database of Chinese laws, regulations, and cases. These English translations are classified under more than 62 legal subjects. While some of the content at this website is free, much of it requires a paid subscription. (We don't have a paid subscription at Hastings because ChinaLawInfo used to be available through our Lexis subscription, covering cases from 1984 to current, translated by the Legal Research Center, Peking University. However, this database was just recently deleted from Lexis.)

National People's Congress - The news website maintained by The National People's Congress, The People's Republic of China, is very good and is updated frequently. CriminalLaw.com - Primarily in Chinese. The English version of this website publishes some introductory articles written in English regarding Chinese criminal law. It is a good research resource for Chinese criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence.

The commission consists of nine Senators, nine members of the House of Representatives, and five senior Administration officials appointed by the President.
