Economist China Country Profile - The 2007 Country Profile for
China is on Course Reserve at the Hastings Library Circulation Desk.
The Economist also has a Country
Briefing on China. It includes news, forecasts, and statistics
on China.

Guide to the Laws of the People's Republic of China by Chinese
law experts Wei Luo and Joan Liu. This extensively documented guide
details the major print and online sources on the PRC's legal system,

the authority of these resources.

Law Centre Links - A website maintained by Melbourne Law School's
Asian Law Centre with useful links to online PRC legal information
and a bibliography of print resources.

Law Digest is a bilingual, monthly web digest detailing
the latest news and developments on contemporary Chinese law and
legal scholarship. To login the User Name is "hastingslaw" and the
Password is "hastings". The purpose of this website is to offer
the latest news on legal developments and judicial reform to domestic
and foreign subscribers interested in Chinese legal issues; to employ
the assistance of interdisciplinary contributors to extract and
summarize the most important information regarding China's legal
and judicial reform from the current myriad of legal news; to offer
valuable intelligence on China's legal developments to international
organizations, political circles, lawyers' groups, NGOs, corporations
interested in Chinese legal issues, and universities and scholars
researching Chinese law.

ID card.] The weekly report service provides comprehensive, current
information on developments affecting the trade and international
business policies of the US and major US trading partners. It includes
the latest news and trends in US trade policy, including regulatory,
legislative, and judicial developments, activities of the International
Trade Commission, Departments of State, Treasury, and Commerce,
World Trade Organization, and European Union. Each week there is
usually a "Country Checklist" for China. Hastings students who want

Blog - This interesting blog is filled with useful information
about Chinese Law.

- This website offers broad access to up-to-date news about China,
with searchable texts of government position papers and a wealth
of basic information about Chinese history, politics, economics,
and culture. It is also one of the major authorized government portal
sites in China and publishes a well-organized directory to search
Chinese government
agencies and to locate Chinese
laws.
China Daily - Latest
news and background information on China.
People's Daily
Online - The "official" newspaper online. Under the link "laws
and regulations" you will find links to important statutes.
China Today -
A China information portal focusing on the Chinese law and justice
system.
China Window - This site
is one of the longest lasting Chinese information sites on the Internet.
It offers a wealth of basic information about Chinese history, business,
economics, tourism, and culture.
China.com Daily News - This
website offers links to news, business, tourism, history & culture,
education, and health.
iSinolaw.com This website provides online access
to the Chinese language and English translations of Chinese laws
(statutes, judicial interpretations, court judgments, arbitration
awards,...) and other legal information about Mainland China, Hong
Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It includes both primary law and secondary
sources. This is the best online resource for finding Chinese law
available to Hastings students. [Note: Hastings students
can access this database on-campus from any campus computer and
off-campus by entering the barcode number on their student ID.]
Law Info China
- This excellent website includes Chinese laws and regulations,
legal news, cases, gazettes, and a legal forum. It is by far the
world's largest English database of Chinese laws, regulations, and
cases. These English translations are classified under more than
62 legal subjects. While some of the content at this website is
free, much of it requires a paid subscription. (We don't have a
paid subscription at Hastings because ChinaLawInfo used to be available
through our Lexis subscription, covering cases from 1984 to current,
translated by the Legal Research Center, Peking University. However,
this database was just recently deleted from Lexis.)
National People's
Congress - The news website maintained by The National People's
Congress, The People's Republic of China, is very good and is updated
frequently. This website focuses on reporting all major missions
and activities of the congress and its standing committee, releasing
the laws, resolution/decisions and lists of appointments and removals
passed by the standing committee. One interesting feature at this
site is the Law Database. Using this database you can do quick research
for Chinese statutes -- Just put the key word into "law database
search" on the left side of the webpage. [Note: For some reason,
this Law Database isn't always available.]
Sinolaws: Chinese Legal Consultation
Network - The website provides legal news, laws and administrative
regulations both in Chinese and English, legal consultant services,
and other legal information services. The English translation of
Chinese laws is limited. (Most of the wesite requires a subscription.)
Chinese Civil &
Commercial Law (CCCL) - The main content of this website is
in Chinese while its English site offers a number of Chinese civil
and commercial laws in English.
CriminalLaw.com - Primarily
in Chinese. The English version of this website publishes some introductory
articles written in English regarding Chinese criminal law. It is
a good research resource for Chinese criminal law, criminal procedure,
and evidence.
Congressional-Executive Commission
on China - This website was created by U.S. Congress in October
2000 with a legislative mandate [H.R. 4444, 106th Cong. (2000)]
to monitor human rights and the development of the rule of law in
China, and to submit an annual report to the President and the Congress.
The commission consists of nine Senators, nine members of the House
of Representatives, and five senior Administration officials appointed
by the President. This website includes the annual reports of the
commission, the topical papers, and the statements of panelists
participating in the roundtables organized by the commission. A
good place to track current legal issues in China.
China's
Ministry of Justice website - It includes information on legislative
developments, judicial assistance, legal aid, and a Chinese law
search system.
