Foreign, Comparative and International Law (FCIL) Department's Mission Statement Drafted July 24, 2002 Our mission is to support the foreign, comparative, and international legal research and teaching needs of the Hastings College of the Law faculty and students. The FCIL department is responsible for developing the foreign, comparative and international collection and for providing access to these materials. In order to carry out this mission, the FCIL department of the Hastings Law Library will always aim to: (a) understand the research and teaching needs of the college's professors, and assist them as needed; (b) assist Hastings's students in locating and understanding FCIL materials; (c) anticipate the needs of the college's foreign LL.M. students and respond to those needs; (d) build the necessary FCIL collections and services and provide access to them, while preserving the collections for future users; (e) develop appropriate skills and motivation of staff; (f) gain an understanding of electronic resources and related technology in order to achieve these aims;. (g) improve the library's FCIL collection and resources by learning about useful new resources and by developing professional relationships with other FCIL librarians. |
