Locations
The following is a list of library locations used in the HASTINGS ONLINE CATALOG. This list of locations is arranged floor by floor. Below each location is a brief description of the types of materials shelved or housed in these locations. 4th Floor
Locations COURSE RESERVE: Materials with this location are shelved behind the Circulation Desk and consist of materials placed on Course Reserve by the faculty. REFERENCE TABLES: Materials with this location are shelved on the tables in front of the Circulation Desk. The materials shelved here consist of selected Shepard's Citators. REFERENCE: Materials with this location are shelved in the Reference Office on the 4th Floor. Materials in this room are selected for their value in providing ready reference assistance. RESERVE STACKS: Materials with this location are shelved in the Reserve Stacks on the 4th Floor. Materials in this room consist of current practice materials, multi-volume treatises, current unbound issues of newsletters and periodicals. Most of the materials in this room are shelved in call number order. Among materials not shelved in call number order are: sets of Witkin, California reporters, California codes, California digests, bound Hastings' exams, ALRs, AmJur, and ALI restatements. RESERVE
READING ROOM: Materials with this location are shelved in the Reserve
Stacks Reading Room on the 4th Floor. They consist of additional sets
of California reports, and California appellate reports, Official California
reports advance sheets from 1979 and various newspapers. MICROGRAPHICS CENTER: Materials with this location are shelved and filed in the Micrographics Center on the 4th Floor. This includes the library's microforms collection and various indexes to those collections. 4TH STACKS CORE: Materials with this location are shelved in the north end of the 4th stacks near the Kresge Reading Room. Materials in this core collection consist of the regional reporters (excluding the Pacific Reporter) and the complete West's General Digest. 4TH STACKS: Materials with this location are shelved in the 4th stacks area. This is the location of the Library's collection of bound law reviews and law journals. INDEX
WALL: Materials with this location are shelved on the wall shelving
in the 4th stacks. Materials shelved here consist of periodical and bibliographic
indexes, such as: Index of legal periodicals, Current law index, etc. 5th Floor Locations 5TH STACKS CORE: Materials with this location are shelved on the northwest side of the 5th floor and consist of duplicate sets of core Federal and California legal reference materials, such as, California reports and California appellate reports, United States Supreme court reports, lawyers ed., Federal Reporter, West's Federal practice digest, etc. 5TH STACKS: Materials with this location are shelved on the 5th floor in Library of Congress classification order. The materials shelved in the 5th Stacks include the library's circulating collection, as well as many non-circulating items, such as, state reporters, state codes, loose-leaf services, multi-volume treatises, etc. TAX LAW
ALCOVE: Materials with this location are shelved on the Golden Gate
Avenue side of the 5th Floor in the Tax Law Alcove. The materials here
primarily consist of titles with call numbers between KF6271-KF6795. 6th Floor Locations LEARNING RESOURCES CENTER: Materials with this location are shelved in the Learning Resources Center or Computer Lab. They primarily consist of computer related materials, computer periodicals and software manuals. 6TH STACKS: Materials with this location are located in various areas of the 6th Floor. The Library's records and briefs collection is located at the Golden Gate Avenue end of the floor. Major documents sets such as the bound Federal Register, the Congressional Record, the Serial Set, as well as superseded CFR's and U.S. Code are located on the south side of the floor. Also shelved on the 6th Floor are materials classified with a "Z" call number. U.S. AGENCY: Materials with this location are shelved on the 6th Floor in the Federal Government Documents collection. These materials consist of the Agency materials received on depository by the library. U.S HEARINGS: Materials with this location are shelved on the 6th floor and consist of United States Congressional hearings received by the library on depository. INTERNATIONAL LAW ALCOVE: Materials with this location are shelved on the 6th floor. The materials in this location consist of titles still classified JX, newly classified KZ and JZ titles. Also, volumes that were moved from the 5thst because of shelving problems will have a location of intl. These materials are designated XSTORAGE. TRAYNOR ROOM: Materials with this location are shelved on the 6th Floor in the Roger J. Traynor Center. The materials in this location consist of the Chief Justice Roger J. Traynor Collection, the 65-Club Collection (including the Jerome Hall and the Richard R.B. Powell Collections), and the Hastings Historical Archives. Use of the materials in this room is restricted. Anyone wanting access to the collections in the Traynor Room needs to apply to the Technical Services Librarian for permission. FACULTY
LIBRARY: Materials with this location are located in the Faculty Library
on the 6th floor. Access to materials in this location is restricted. GOLD READING ROOM: Materials with this location are shelved in the Gold Reading Room located in Snodgrass Hall (198 McAllister). Materials in this room consist of Federal and California research and reference materials, reporters, etc. The research materials in this room are not current. GOLD READING ROOM MEZZANINE: Materials with this location are shelved in the upper level of the Gold Reading room. They consist of Federal and California research and reference materials. The materials shelved here are not current. SUTRO ROOM: The Sutro Room is a leisure reading area of the Library located in Snodgrass Hall. Materials in this room consist of duplicate sets of the California Reports and the California Appellate Reports. Last updated
